This is how Renfe’s new Avril trains are: when will they arrive and at what destinations will they be?

After a 2021 full of novelties in Renfe, forced to transform before the , 2022 continues to bring news to the railway that these days has presented its new train model. Inserted in the historic Talgo, the Avril arrives to establish a new way of moving around different points of the Spanish geography.

Alta Velocidad Rueda Independiente Ligero () is the new Renfe train in Spain that has already begun to circulate, although only in a test period. With similar characteristics to the classic Talgo, light, articulated and with short cars, its main characteristic is that it can travel at more than 300 kilometers per hour with more than 600 passengers.

The new ‘toy’ of the national operator that is also part of the plan to achieve greater sustainability of the company, while improving the performance of its services. With a 30% reduction in electricity consumption, due to its lightness, it accelerates and brakes faster, which further shortens travel times.

In addition, its 3+2 seat model allows you to gain passengers on each journey, while they do not lose space in their experience. This is the great novelty of the Avril, to hold up to 600 passengers, which will give Renfe high profitability by being able to spend its entire useful life operating at high capacity.

When will the Avril trains be put into service?

With a first fleet of 30 units, as agreed with the concession with Talgo, Renfe has not yet announced when the testing process will end, although it does expect that commercial circulation will be developed by the summer of 2022.

What routes will the Avril trains be on?

Thus, once they can transport passengers, the Avril can be located throughout the national geography thanks to its rolling model that can move at more than 300 km/h.
