This is how the prefabricated houses with the Passivhaus seal and Amazon technology are

The ‘boom’ of prefabricated houses has had a special impact in the state of California, where the latest innovations in the sector such as or built come from. However, one of the most important is the one launched by the Plan Prefab company, which received financial support from Amazon in 2018: it is focused on building houses that respect the environment and health.

“Plant is focused on building homes that are as healthy and sustainable as possible and we push the limits,” explains Plant Prefab founder and CEO Steve Glenn. “We use the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program, as well as our own rigorous health and sustainability program, to create some of the healthiest homes in the world with the least possible impact on the planet,” he explains.

In addition to this commitment to health, the prefabricated houses of this Californian company have the passivhaus seal, which guarantees the maximum use of energy to save and respect the environment. “Passive House is another major environmental certification program and integrates uncompromising standards for occupant health, comfort and energy performance. We are honored to partner with one of the nation’s foremost passive house experts and designers of experienced passive houses to introduce our first passive living houses”. Additionally, in 2019, Plant Prefab committed to full carbon neutrality in its operations by 2028, becoming the first prefab builder to announce a net-zero goal.

To comply with the rigorous passive house standard, all of the company’s LivingHomes -the name by which their housing units are defined- guarantee an airtight construction, highly efficient mechanical systems, a dedicated fresh air system, a recovery ventilation system of power or heat, high performance water heaters, high insulation and high performance windows and doors.

The construction of all LivingHomes models is also done efficiently with the use of the Plant Building System, a hybrid system patented by Plant Prefab to build prefabricated houses. It is a panel construction method, incorporating plumbing, electrical and finishing materials. By integrating both modules and panels, PBS gives architects greater design flexibility and reduces transportation and installation complexity and cost.

To help homeowners make their homes smarter, safer and more convenient, all LivingHomes models and custom homes designed by Plant Design Studio are built with Alexa-enabled smart home devices. Thus, customers can ask Alexa to adjust the thermostat, enable Wi-Fi access for guests, control lighting or help with energy monitoring, among other features. Living SmartHome products come fully installed and ready for activation.

“Following our investment in Plant Prefab last year (2018), Amazon is thrilled to continue collaborating with Plant Prefab to deliver convenient smart home experiences in every LivingHome,” said David Jackson, Director of Smart Home at Amazon. “From the day they move in, homeowners can rely on Alexa to help make everyday household tasks more convenient, provide peace of mind while they’re home or away, and more.”
