This is the reason why Ukraine has sunk the flagship of its army before the advance of Russia

If a few days ago it was possible to witness how the symbol of Ukrainian power in the air had ended up destroyed by the Russian bombardment of different parts of Ukraine, in the last few hours it has been the very leaders led by Volodimir Zelenski who have decided to end the insignia of his naval fleet. The Hetman Sahaidachny, the main ship of the Ukrainian navy, already rests on the waters of the Black Sea before possible movements of Vladimir Putin.

War always leaves devastating images. Of civilians, but also of destroyed infrastructures, the last one has been witnessed in the past days when the Ukrainian ship par excellence gradually sank before the advance of the Russian troops.

Not precisely because of their attacks, but by Ukrainian decision, the Defense Minister himself, Oleksiy Reznkov, confirmed the tragic goodbye of this naval symbol launched in 1992 and, therefore, despite being born with Soviet ideas, always raising the flag from Ukraine.

And it is that the weaponry and symbolic power of Hetman Sahaidachny, docked in the port city of Mykolaiv, was such that before the advance of the Russian army, the Ukrainian leaders feared that it would fall into the hands of Putin. A fact that would have been devastating, as it would mean one of the most important victories of the Slavic invasion.

In 2014, RT falsely reported that its crew members had gone over to the Russian side.

With a speed of 32 knots and armed with the latest military equipment, including an AK-100 100-mm cannon and two RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers, as well as a hangar for two helicopters. Such is its importance that already during the invasion of Crimea in 2014, the Russian agency RT falsely reported that its crew had deserted Ukraine by raising the Russian flag.

Something that the Ukrainian forces have always feared and the reason why it has now been decided that it was better to sink it in time before seeing it on the enemy side. Another of the symbols in terms of infrastructure is that it is leaving with the war, in a military coup that it will be difficult to repair in the short term.
