In this first article we are going to know what a Blog is and we are going to tell a little about its history.

Given the current boom in this publication format on the Internet, we are going to talk a little about blogs. The objective of this article is to offer a small introduction to the blog concept, to then go through this .com manual to offer different ways to create a blog and customize it.

To begin with, we are going to give a definition of what a blog is through an example. For this I want you to think about the ship’s logbooks, in which everything that happens on board the ship is written every day. Well, a blog is something similar, since it was born with the idea of ​​writing a kind of online diary. This diary is usually personal, although there are blogs in which several people or an entire community participate.

Blogs are one of the forms of web 2.0 publication, in this case an evolution of what personal pages were before. Over time, its application and definition has grown towards other fields such as news, opinions, etc.

A blog is defined as a website that is updated periodically, where chronologically articles of various kinds appear, from opinions to news, tricks, recipes and in general all kinds of topics. Another feature of blogs is that published articles, often called “Posts” (the plural would be posts), appear on the page newest first. That is, as something is published, it appears on the front page first and as new articles are published, the first ones are placed, displacing the oldest ones down.

Usually, each blog is dedicated to a specific theme, but there may be some mixed themes (in the case of personal blogs).

Blogs, as can be read on Wikipedia, were seen for the first time in 1994, when many of us in Spain still didn’t even know what the Internet was. In any case, the term Weblog was first seen in December 1997, coined by Jorn Barger. After this the term blog (which comes from the abbreviation of Weblog) was created, both as a noun and as a verb: blog (edit a blog or post, send a post to a blog). Also soon the word blogger began to be used, as the person who edits a blog, which in Spanish we could translate as blogger.

The popularization of blogs arose around the year 1999 when several English-language websites began to offer blog creation and hosting services, so that Internet users eager to become bloggers did not have to deal with the technical complications of creating blogs. your own infrastructure for blog editing.

But until 2002 the term did not go from being something specific to the Internet medium to be introduced into society and even be the object of research and a social phenomenon.
