A/B Testing Course #6. Google Optimize – .com

In the sixth lesson of the a/b testing course we are going to work with the tool par excellence for carrying out this type of testing with users, Google Optimize.

Optimize has many advantages over other formulas for performing a test. One of them is that it is independent of the CMS we are using. Although in the example of this lesson we are going to see it work on WordPress, we could run it on any website. It works the same for both pure basic html and super complex custom development.

So that we don’t miss out on any details, we’ll start with the most basic tagging, goal creation, and setup. We will install the Optimize extension for Chrome that will serve as a visual editor to create the variants of our test object. We will also use an (optional) plugin for WordPress that allows us to insert code in the head of the web and that will help us to add the Analytics and Optimize tracking code: Insert Headers and Footers.

Let’s go with the first part, where we will add the code to our website and we will create the experiment from scratch.

Have you seen how great the method of creating alternative options is?

We didn’t need to build a complete second version of the page, we just had to create the alternative with the Optimize interface itself. Simpler impossible.

Now we are going to see how the results of our experiment are shown.

As you can see, the results included in the Optimize report are very complete. It’s natural because it takes advantage of the full power of Google Analytics. Now imagine the possibilities that open up by combining these two tools that are so well understood.

We can track ecommerce events, funnels and conversions from a/b test experiments to improve any aspect of our website conversions.

I propose an exercise: create an experiment for one of the CTAs on your website and check the performance of a couple of variations with Optimize. You will see how easy it is to configure.

If you have any questions, we are at your disposal in the support service where we will answer all the questions that arise during the exercise.

I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson, where we are going to work with a much less powerful tool and also much easier to implement, the A/B Testing for WordPress plugin.
