Abanca proposes a workforce adjustment of 350 employees, 5.7% of the total

Abanca joins the and proposes a workforce adjustment for 350 employees, 5.7% of the workforce of the group led by Juan Carlos Escotet.

The bank has made this decision after finishing integrating Bankoa last weekend, . The takeover meant adding some 260 employees to the group. Likewise, Abanca also, with which it added another 150 workers.

After these acquisitions, the group will now reduce the workforce by 350 employees, almost the same number that it absorbed with both operations.

Different union sources advance to Europa Press that the entity has alleged “organizational and production” causes, with overlaps in 15 provinces. The process will also affect the four Galician provinces, according to the union organizations.

The representative of the Galician Inter-union Confederation (CIG) at the meeting, Alberto Carballo, rejected the company’s approach since, in practice, he says, it means getting rid of a workforce equivalent to almost all that contributed by the banks whose business is assumed by the Galician entity.

He also criticized the exposed conditions, since, although Abanca speaks of voluntary nature, that “is relative,” he warned, and assured that there will end up being compensated layoffs, relocations and displacements. As for age, as he indicated, the bank raises exits for people over 58 years of age, but assumes that if the quota is not covered, it will have to take traumatic measures.

The next meeting is called for Wednesday, November 24, and the unions then hope to address the affectation of offices. Abanca has 631 branches throughout the country.
