Applying the is relatively simple, either manually, applying code in your theme or through the use of plugins for GDPR and thus comply with the European standard on Data Protection.

But it is true that not all themes allow a simple implementation of this regulation, nor all Forms management plugins are already prepared to activate the cookie acceptance checkbox.

In the case of WPFormsa plugin to create forms in WordPress in a simple and very fast way, in the last version of May 2018 already includes options to activate GDPR and that the acceptance boxes or checkboxes are shown in the form itself without having to resort to patches manuals. Do you want to know how to activate it? …keep reading!

WPForms forms that are not GDPR compliant

By default, when a contact form is created with WPForms, GDPR is not enabled, as you can see in the following screenshot.

This makes it clear that no adjustments have been applied so that the form meets at least the following standards:

  • Cookie Law
  • Privacy Policy
  • General Data Protection Regulation
  • LOPD
  • To cite the most common and minimum necessary in any website. I am not going to go into which ones you should add since it usually depends on the focus of your site and the type of data that you manage from registered users, clients or visitors.

…let’s get to work to solve this and activate RGPF in WPForms with the minimum necessary for your forms to comply correctly.

Activation and configuration of GDPR in WPForms

For this activation, no additional plugin will be necessary, since from version 1.4.6 of the plugin elements are included to manage GDPR with ease:

    • Configuration connector improvements.
    • A checkbox is added to the form to accept GDPR.

This allows, from the configuration of each form created with WPForms, to add a consent box to comply with the European standard.

In order to view the GDPR field in the “Fields” section of WPForms, it is necessary to first activate this functionality.

From the WordPress dashboard, WPForms, access the Settings menu.

On the next screen you will see several upper tabs and precisely in the first call General you will find the section GDPR (abbreviations in English of GDPR).

Where is the activation option located? GDPR improvements.

Activate the mentioned box and save the changes in the orange button Save Settings.

You already have GDPR enabled so you can now insert the field into your website forms created with WPForms.

In the WPForms dashboard menu click on All Forms (All forms) to access the list of created forms.

Click on the desired form (if you have several) to edit it.

Once the form is loaded, you will see it from the WPForms custom editor, which is nothing more than an embed window that occupies the entire screen of the open browser tab and therefore the classic WordPress dashboard will not be visible, but don’t worry. it’s below! 😉

Now, on the left side of the editor, in blue, you will see the blocks of fields assignable to the form, and in the first group called Standard Fields blue button added GDPR Agreement.

Well, that is the button that you have to incorporate in your form if it does not appear yet.

The GDPR block is added but with the text in English, so you will have to adapt it to your particular needs.

To be able to change the text you have to pass the mouse pointer over the block dragged to the form and you will see a tooltip with the text in gray Click to edit. Drag to reorder (Click to edit. Drag to reorder.)

Click on that notice and the field will be displayed in edit mode and on the left you will see the editable fields of that GDPR block.

Some texts that I can suggest you use for this block, although the ideal would be to add it just below the form, if you plan to use the “more elaborate” option, due to the extension of the content it shows.

    Simple option without links:

Simple option with link to Privacy Policy and Legal Notice:

I have read the Legal Notice and I accept the Privacy Policy.

Option more elaborate with links to different texts:

Information on Data Protection: – Responsible for this website: Your name or your company< /strong> – Purpose of this form: Answer your queries. – Legitimation: Your consent. – Communication of the data: the data will not be communicated to third parties except by legal obligation. – Recipients: The users who consult. – Rights: Access, rectification or deletion, limitation of treatment, opposition to treatment. – Contact: your-email@de-contacto This website does not collect data for storage or provide information to third parties about inquiries received in contact or subscription forms or comments.

From here you decide what to include and under what terms and if you have any doubts it is better that you consult with your Legal Advisor.

Finally, if you have activated the GDPR option, and depending on the legal texts that you have added, the WPForms Contact form will already show the consent box, and texts that you have added, to comply with current regulations.

Conclusions

That your forms must comply with the LOPD and the GDPR is undeniable! especially if your site collects data from users/customers/visitors, since in addition to complying with the law, you will be giving more confidence to those who visit you and need to fill out certain forms on your site for various reasons.
