Aldi has the best private label wine: those that the OCU recommends buying are worth less than 10 euros

Spanish gastronomy stands out for many aspects, however it is in the wines where it has one of its widest varieties. With famous denominations, red, white or rosé, sparkling, expensive or cheap… in a supermarket you can find any type and for any taste. For this reason, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has decided, given their value for money, where all are worth less than 10 euros.

In constant innovation to offer the best products to their customers, the different supermarket and hypermarket chains have long since decided to also move into the wine niche. Due to the high demand that exists in Spain, there are many wineries that market certain products under a white label to give the same quality at a lower price.

This is the case of Aldi which, thanks to the Vinart brand, achieves the second best position in the entire analysis. In the sparkling white, it is considered a “master buy” given its price of 1.95 euros. In addition, it has a rating of 85 out of 100 with five stars in alcohol, acidity and sugar.

With the same score but one step above is the also sparkling white. Categorized as Cava Denomination of Origin, it is the best in the entire classification and stands out for its straw-yellow color with significant greenish nuances. Its price is 4.39 euros and can be purchased in most establishments.

Another closes the podium, although this time from the firm Segura Viudas. A cava, bottled by Freixenet, of very good quality with aromas of high intensity, fermentative tones, bakery, nuts and balanced aromas, which obtains a score of 84 out of 100. Also available in several establishments, its price is 7.8 euros.

After these, cavas continue to predominate, although the OCU also reviews two reds in positions 8 and 10. In addition, there are three other private labels (two from Mercadona and one from Carrefour):

4. Jaume Serra Semidry. With a rating of 84 and a price of 2.95 euros, it has the Cava Denomination of Origin and is perfect for Christmas times.

5. Cabré and Sabeté (Mercadona). Only available in the establishments of the Valencian chain, it obtains 83 points for the OCU and stands out for its limited balance, dominated by sweetness and quick passage and short persistence. Its price is 1.95 euros.

6. Via de la Plata Semi-dry. With a little less quality than the first on the list, this cava gets a rating of 83 given its pairing with Christmas motifs. Its price is 4.45 euros.

7. Castell del Llac (Carrefour). Once again a Brut, although this time packaged by the French chain, it has a clean, bright color and an aroma of white fruit. Evaluated with 82 points out of 100, its price is 3.95 euros.

8. Campo Viejo 18 months in barrel 2015. The first of the red wines awarded by the OCU, this Rioja obtains a rating of 82 out of 100. Its price is 8.24 euros.

9. Cabré and Sabeté Brut (Mercadona). Another from the chain run by Juan Roig, although with a somewhat lower rating (82), obtains the category of “master purchase” for its price of 1.95 euros. A sparkling white wine that pairs very well with sausage cheeses, salted fish or fish marinades.
