Berlusconi distributes power in Mediaset with the appointment of Borja Prado as the new president

Changes in the leadership of Mediaset. Borja Prado will replace Alejandro Echevarría as the new president of Mediaset España according to El Confidencial. The company has not made any statement confirming the news, although sources consulted by elEconomista suggest that it could be official tomorrow, Wednesday, February 23, coinciding with the Board of Directors.

The change in the presidency takes place after Echevarría announced at the end of January his intention to leave the presidency coinciding with the expiration of his term.

Prado’s appointment occurs at a delicate moment for the company, with an audience that has not yet taken off and is seeing how Antena 3, its main competitor, is overtaking it on most days.

In this way, the Berlusconi family, majority shareholder of Mediaset, bet on a person who is not unknown to the communication group. In fact, he has been part of it on several occasions. In 2005 he left Mediaset after 12 years as an independent director and in 2018 he returned to the company as a proprietary director.

Berlusconi is also committed to continuing to have Paolo Vasile, CEO, a position they have held since 1999. Vasile’s renewal occurs amid rumors that pointed to a possible departure of the CEO as a remedy for the audience crisis.
