Change the computer’s IP address

On your computer you can have one or more IP addresses. A typical case would be to have, on the one hand, the IP of your local network and on the other, the IP with which you connect to the Internet. If you do not have a local network, it is most likely that you only have an Internet IP. If you have a router to connect to the Internet through a local network, it is most likely that your computer only has the IP of the local network.

You could change any of the IPs from the control panel, in the “Network connections” section, selecting properties of the connection you want to change and then “TCP/IP” properties. But keep in mind that changing a TCP/IP setting can cause your computer to stop being connected to the local network or the Internet.

What is the one you want to change? I understand that you want to change the Internet connection IP.

That IP can be of two types, static or dynamic. If it is static, it means that you will always connect to the Internet with the same IP. Then you would have to talk to your Internet access provider to change your IP, but possibly they cannot easily manage this without changing the Internet access contract.

The normal thing, however and at least in Spain, is that your IP is dynamic. This means that every time you connect to the Internet, your computer requests and is assigned an Internet connection IP. So, to change the IP you would simply have to disconnect from the Internet and reconnect. Perhaps you have a router, in which case you can turn it off and on later so that it manages the Internet connection again and assigns it an IP.

The IPs are automatically assigned by the Internet connection server, so you can’t do much to choose it yourself. There is even the possibility that you connect to the Internet again and they will give you the same IP that you had before.
