What is Photoshop CC and what improvements does it offer us?

Find out what’s new in Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud), the most advanced version of the Photoshop suite, more integrated with the Internet and the Adobe cloud.

In this article I am going to show in a simple and practical way the juicy news that this new Photoshop suite brings us, more integrated to the Internet and with a clearer vision of use and connection to Creative Cloud, Adobe’s cloud.

Every new version incorporates a series of new features and improvements externally and internally to a greater or lesser extent. Internal modifications are often not even noticeable by the user, such as the acceleration of processes produced by an improvement in the algorithms and optimization of the program.

Regarding the external level, we can appreciate improvements that make our workflow more pleasant and productive.

Adobe is implementing new tools in each new version, adapting to the needs and trends, thus consolidating its leadership in the world of graphic design and increasingly in web design.

So, I am going to focus on indicating the tools oriented to the Web and in which Photoshop can be more useful for us in site designs.

CreativeCloud

Creative Cloud is the cloud created by Adobe to be able to save our work and designs in a web space, share them and synchronize them with the local computer with which we are working at that moment and also have access to different additional Adobe services. It is no longer necessary to save the files on a flash drive and download them to another computer to continue working, since thanks to CC we can enter our account (if we do not have it, it is very easy to create an id with the Creative Cloud Connection application that is installed with the same photoshop package) and access all our folders and files ported to the network.

Now CC has been integrated into Photoshop where we can, among other things, synchronize according to our custom options.

A very useful option has also been added so that when a possible conflict occurs, to recover the synchronization, we can choose between keeping the remote or local configuration.

We will find the synchronize button in the lower left part next to the zoom.

Not only can we synchronize what we have at the moment between the local computer and in the cloud, but we can also manage the account online and access the content to manage it easily (from the Edit menu / “CC id account” / Manage content options). synchronization.

Copy CSS option

This is where Adobe begins to make its first steps with respect to web design. In a very simplified way, Photoshop can generate the CSS code for a layer or layers within a group so that we don’t have to bother doing it by hand.

And I say in a very simple way because there are extensions on the market (we will see it in another article) that generate a more complete and useful CSS code to use in our layout.

As simple as accessing the Layer / Copy CSS menu or by right-clicking on the layer in question. Once copied to the clipboard, we can paste it into any conventional text editor.

We can observe how the class or classes have been generated depending on whether it is one or several layers with all their characteristics, thus representing our style sheets.

Now, as I said at the beginning, this feature is very limited in its beginnings as we can see, for example if there is a change in typography or punctual styles in a layer within a text sheet, that punctual style will not be copied to CSS. Also, an italic and/or bold typeface within a text will not be rendered, since the content of the layer is not included within the CSS style. In the same way if we have complex shapes in the layer they would not be exported.

HTML, CSS, and SVG Color Swatches

In this new version, color samples can be incorporated from files that were not compatible with the application in other versions.

We find this very useful for importing in one go the full range of colors used in an HTML page, a CSS style sheet or an SVG graphic that can be embedded in a web page and has a vector feature so we can continue our work. our available samples.

It is easily accessible from the Swatches panel dropdown menu.

From here we can replace or load samples, depending on whether we want only the new samples to appear or add to the ones we already have.

Next we will have the possibility of choosing our format, both those that we already contemplated in previous versions and the new ones.

There is an easier way (if possible) to load the color swatches, we simply open a file and Photoshop will automatically detect if it is HTM(L), CSS or SVG and will automatically add the swatches to the colors we already have.

Updated image size window

In this new version, one of the most striking changes is the one produced in a dialog box that stayed with us from older versions, that box is the image size. Accessible from the Image / Image Size menu.

We can appreciate how the physiognomy has totally changed and in part the concept or work process, although fundamentally it will carry out the same operations that it had been carrying out in previous versions.

On the left side we can see a preview of the final result that we are going to carry out in this pixel transformation, both to increase and decrease or simply changing the resolution.

On the right side we have predefined different dimensions in which to fit the image, the classic width, height and resolution options that can be chained to be proportional and resampling options.

Improved filters

Before the filters were destructive on the image, now you can enable the filters on smart objects and be able to reedit them. This allows us total control over the image without deteriorating it, using the same filters.

As for suggestions we can highlight, among others, the liquefy filter and the blur filters.

When we convert an image into a smart object we can apply a filter to it, which will become smart and will appear next to the image in the layers panel, being able to manage, modify or delete it without destroying the original image.

Improvement in tools

Option isolate layers:

It has been incorporated into the move tool and is very simple, but also very useful, especially when we work with many layers.

You launch this option, with the Move tool activated, by pressing the right mouse button. There we will find the option that will act on the layer or layers that we have selected.

We will observe that in the layers panel we will find only the one(s) that we have isolated and we will be able to work with them comfortably without disturbing the others.

To deactivate the option we will simply have to return to the same menu and press it again.

An observation to take into account is that, if we isolate a folder from the context menu option, it will only isolate the folder without its content, to do it correctly it is necessary to select it from the layers panel with the right mouse button from the folder in question.

crop tool:

In the previous version CS6 the crop tool had already undergone a series of changes, in this version what has been produced is an optimization to use it even better.

First of all, the size and resolution option has been removed from the “proportion” menu, replacing it with another series of options. The fact that you can configure and store new crop settings is interesting and very useful.

Paragraph and Character Styles Tool:

The possibilities are increased from the previous version of Photoshop with the new styles panels. The possibility of creating our own styles and predetermining them in a very simple way has been added.

Above we can see how we created a custom style, both paragraph and character. Next we see that there are two new options where to load and save our default text styles, in such a way that if we close and open another file, the default styles will reappear.

Trace tool:

The drawing of vectors or paths has also undergone modifications in this new version. As we generate a shape an entirely new properties palette appears automatically.

In this palette we have options similar to the ones that appear at the top of the options bar, but there are another series of parameters that are inaccessible from that bar. One novelty is the position of the X and Y axes with respect to the canvas. We also highlight as a novelty the type of contour of the shape, the finials that we want to give it, the corners that we want to apply to it and its angle (in the case of rectangular shapes).

Note: Remember that if the properties palette does not appear, you can activate it in the Window / Properties menu.

Also as a novelty when we generate paths, the program allows us to move them all at the same time, and relocate them by selecting them as if they were layers.

In short, now we can modify and play with the layouts as we want.

And here are the juiciest news that this version of Photoshop brings us, this great tool. I hope you liked the article and see you in new deliveries.
