Citroën has finally revealed what the new member of its DS family will be like, with which it has made the leap to the premium range in recent years. The DS Numéro 9 prototype shows a large sports sedan with plug-in hybrid mechanics, whose average consumption remains at an “incredible” (both meanings of the meaning fit) 1.7 l/100 km despite delivering almost 300 CV and weighing more of 1,500 kilos.
We are, therefore, before a very attractive car especially in terms of performance / consumption ratio. With its remarkable dimensions (4.93 x 1.94 x 1.27 meters), the DS9 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 244 km/h; not negligible values taking into account the volume of this new Citroën.
But this saloon is also committed to satisfying those drivers who are increasingly opting for cleaner and more efficient driving. Equipped with a 225 CV 1.6 THP gasoline engine and a 70 CV electric motor, the set will deliver 295 CV with consumption and emissions that would be enviable: 1.7 l/100 km and an average level of 39 g/km of CO2. , according to official data, although it seems unlikely that these optimistic figures will be met in practice.
In addition, the 50 km of electric autonomy that its lithium-ion batteries have make the DS9 an interesting option also when driving around the city. A technology that can be recharged directly through a conventional outlet in just 3 and a half hours, according to the French firm itself.
In appearance, and in the absence of its presentation in society at the next Beijing Auto Show, we are faced with a large sedan that receives certain coupé proportions (its aerodynamic coefficient remains at 0.61): its front end stands out with its own character , characterized by the wide length of its hood and its low height.
Will it be the confirmation of Citroën’s premium bet?
At the moment, Citroën has not clarified whether the DS9 will be put into production as a commercial model, so everything indicates that the French brand prefers to wait and see what the reaction of the sector is once they get to know it “closely” at the Motor Show.
