Close WordPress in maintenance mode – underConstruction

When we start a web project with WordPress, one of the questions that arise is Should the site be open to the public during the development phase?, How do I close my website while I am working on its creation?. These and other issues will have crossed our minds at some point when starting a new web project.

Yes ok some WordPress themes already incorporate through the configuration an option to activate the Maintenance ModeNot everyone has this functionality.

We see how to activate the maintenance mode or leave the site without access during the development phase, except for a certain group of users, for example “Administrator” is possible and simple, using the plugin underConstruction for WordPress.

The plugin we can from the WordPress.org plugin directoryis currently in its version 1.11 and is compatible with WordPress 2.7 and higher versions, so it will work without problems in the latest stable version 3.7.1 of this CMS.

Another option to install it is from the WordPress dashboard, plugins, Add newwhere after writing the plugin name “underconstruction” in the search dialog box, it will show us this and other searches involving this word and we can install it with one click and activate it with another click.

Then we have to go to plugins, underConstruction and configure it based on our needs.

We illustrate the process of installation, activation and configuration of the plugin in some screenshots and a before and after the activation of this plugin.

The use of this type of plugin is interesting if we are developing a website with WordPress and we work on the url of the final domain and we do not want to reveal the creation process to the general public, because allows us to close the website and that users with certain privileges (group of users) can access and view the website without being affected by this temporary closure.
