Coffee diet: What did this method to lose weight consist of? is it really healthy?

The passing of the years has shown that diets based on a balanced diet are the only ones that truly have long-term positive effects, thus displacing those known as miracle diets. Between the , in all of us it is necessary to make efforts and put aside foods -that we love- that do not bring us anything good. But what if one of your favorite vices was the one that helped you lose weight? Well if this is the coffee, you might be in luck.

As Dr. Bob Arnot states in his book The Coffee Lover’s Diet, drinking several cups of coffee a day can help speed up metabolism, burn more fat, block calorie absorption, and decrease appetite. But all that glitters is not gold, since, as the doctor explains in his book, for this ingredient to help you lose weight you must accompany it with other guidelines, such as eating a healthy (and Mediterranean) diet, including a large percentage of fruits, cereals and vegetables in meals and avoiding refined, precooked and ultra-processed carbohydrates.

In general, Arnot advises not to exceed 1,500 calories a day, but this figure will vary according to the characteristics of each person, such as sex or height. Therefore, it is always advisable to consult a specialist first.

How much coffee should I drink and what kind

Dr. Arnot’s plan includes the intake of 720 ml of coffee per day, which would correspond to a maximum of three cups. However, not all grains are worth it, since the most suitable is a gently roasted coffee rich in polyphenols, a substance that has a great antioxidant capacity. In addition, coffee should be consumed alone, without milk or sugar, as this would add extra calories.

Can everyone do this diet?

To the question of whether this method is applicable to everyone, the answer is no. Not all people have the same tolerance to caffeine, and we must remember that an excess of it can cause health problems such as blood pressure, insomnia, headaches or even osteoporosis or depression, among others. In this sense, experts recommend not exceeding the consumption of approximately four cups per day (960 ml) so as not to run the risk of suffering any complications.

Is it really effective?

Although various studies show that caffeine can help increase the metabolic rate by up to 11% and burn more fat, there is no scientific evidence that people who have lost weight using Dr. Arnot’s method are thanks to coffee, since that could be due to following a healthy, low-calorie diet.
