The price of those necessary for sending letters and standard postcards and up to twenty grams in weight to national destinations for next year has risen by 7.7%, up to 0.70 euros, which represents an increase of five cents that will be applied as of this Friday, January 1.
International letters and postcards -ordinary and standardized up to 20 grams- will be franked with 1.50 euros, five cents more than this year, when the destination is Europe, including Greenland.
For its part, according to the public postal company, letters to the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand will cost 1.60 euros, compared to 1.55 euros in 2020. For the rest of the countries , postage will be 1.90 euros, which represents an increase of 22.5%.
In this way, the average increase for the so-called Universal Postal Service (SPU) will reach 7.57% in 2021. However, Correos defends that Spain is one of the countries of the European Union with the cheapest rate.
In this sense, the average cost on the continent reaches 1.12 euros, 42 cents more than in Spain. For example, in Germany it is 0.80 euros, in the United Kingdom 0.87 euros, in France 1.16 euros or in Poland 0.95 euros.

In addition, Correos justifies that this decision, adopted by its board of directors and communicated to the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC), has as its objective “a progressive adaptation to costs and the maintenance of quality and efficiency in the provision of the SPU to all citizens”.
In 2020, the prices for the national mailing of letters increased by 8.3%, after increasing by 9% in 2019, 10% in 2018, 11.1% in 2017, and 7.14% in 2016 and 10.5% in 2015. Thus, since 2015, when it cost 0.42 euros, the increase now reaches 67%.
For its part, the company has also decided to increase the price of national parcels by 4.97% and international shipments by 2.53%.
