David Allen – Don’t let life get in the way.

We all have a life full of tasks and desires: the daily functions of work, the unforeseen and small “fires” that we need to put out on a daily basis, the routine at home, the vacation trip postponed for years… and that dream of find professional fulfillmenteither through an existing job or an entrepreneurial idea that needs to be put into practice.

David Allen, productivity consultant and creator of the method, states in his homonymous book that all these things end up generating a level of stress that is difficult to manage. And that, in order for us to actually achieve everything we want and feel the sense of mission accomplished, both in the personal and professional spheres, we need to “don’t let life get in the way”. But how to do that?

Identify what is important

What are you really prioritizing? Is everything you do (or think you have to do) connected to what you’re looking for? The ideal is iidentify and keep only what has real meaning for your day to day.

Plan and trust your system

Are you already clear about the goals you really want to achieve? So, the time has come. No need to worry about doing “all at once and now”: mark small steps related to your projects so that you always know what is the next action to be executed with respect to each one of them.

Organize tasks in a reliable system – your favorite notebook or one – truly commit to it, knowing that countless possibilities and “temptations” will always arise, and that it will be necessary to focus solely on your priorities and values, on what It is consistent with who you are. Remember to reserve part of your time to rest and to do activities that promote your well-being.

Don’t stop thinking

Building the reality you dream of is something that requires constant effort and reflection. Sometimes, something that seemed very important will no longer be, or a more practical and creative way of managing your tasks will emerge. Therefore, always be open to questions and changes. And I understand that new challenges and unforeseen actions will arise at all times, which are also important for your projects.
