Deutsche Bank signs Iñigo Martos as CEO of Spain and takes over from Rodríguez-Pina

Deutsche Bank signs Iñigo Martos as the new CEO for Spain, replacing Antonio Rodríguez-Pina, after 17 years in office. The appointment will become effective as of July 1, 2022. Rodríguez-Pina will remain as president of the entity in Spain.

As reported by the financial group in a statement on Monday, Iñigo Martos will also be appointed head of the International Private Bank division in Spain as of January 1. In addition, once he is CEO of the bank, he will also assume the positions of Regional CEO Iberia, Chief Country Officer (CCO) Spain and General Manager of Deutsche Bank AG Branch in Spain.

The one who will be the new chief executive joins the bank of German origin from Credit Suisse, an entity from which he resigned on December 10 as head of private banking for Spain. Prior to this role, he held various senior leadership roles, including Head of Southern Europe, LatAm and Brazil, Head of Assets and Investments for EMEA, and Head of Product Management in Western Europe.

Claudio de Sanctis, global head of International Private Bank and CEO for EMEA, has assured through a statement that with Martos they have found an “outstanding” CEO to take the business in the Iberia region “to the next level”. “Throughout his long career, Iñigo has proven to be a strong and effective leader. As a recognized private banker and capital markets professional with international experience, he possesses all the skills and attributes necessary to manage our business as we strive to become the leading financial institution for entrepreneurs and their families,” de Sanctis said.

Rodríguez-Pina, “essential”

Regarding Rodríguez-Pina, he assured that it has been “fundamental” to develop the business with Spanish clients of the bank and position it to grow in the coming years. “He has been responsible for transforming Deutsche Bank’s Spanish business, working robustly and productively with our entire infrastructure and commercial teams while engaging in active and constructive dialogue with all of our stakeholders,” he noted.

Fernando Sousa, to date head of International Private Bank in Spain, has announced his plans to retire on January 31, 2022.
