Diffraction of light: what it is – Dictionary of Economics

Deviation of light from its rectilinear propagation when it hits obstacles. This phenomenon reaches a special application when the obstacles consist of fine regular structures or diffraction gratings. A specific example of such diffraction structures is the hologram used on euro banknotes.
