Ecuador authorizes the return to face-to-face classes gradually from June 7

The National Emergency Operations Committee (COE-N) of Ecuador has authorized the progressive return of face-to-face classes in the country as of June 7.

Only institutions that have an authorized educational continuity institutional plan will be able to return to educational centers as of this date, according to the Ecuadorian media ‘El Universo’.

According to the Minister of Education, María Brown, there are 15,135 institutions that have delivered the aforementioned plan, and 5,089 of them have demanded to resume face-to-face or blended attendance in some way with reduced capacity.

At the moment, 1,031 educational units throughout the country have received approval for this, 1,102 of them rural and 199 urban, as specified by the person in charge of the Education portfolio.

For his part, the delegate of the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, who chairs the COE-N, Juan Zapata, has reported that the parents or legal representatives of the students will voluntarily decide whether or not to return to the educational centers.

In this context, the suspension of classes and face-to-face activities of the pilot plans authorized by higher education institutions has also been lifted, which affects 37 universities, polytechnic schools and institutes.

In an advance for the withdrawal of measures against COVID-19, the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, has reported that as of this Wednesday the requirement of the PCR test is eliminated for national and international passengers who have the vaccination certificate, while the Land borders remain closed.

So far, the country accumulates 428,865 confirmed cases and 20,681 deaths, after having recorded 1,175 new infections and 61 deaths in the last day, according to the Ministry of Health.
