The Ministry of Transport has awarded the nine service areas included in the AP7 motorway, which since last January passed to the State after the end of the concession to Aumar, a subsidiary of Abertis.
For this purpose, the ministry headed by José Luis Ábalos announced a service tender to grant the exploitation of each of the areas included in the Tarragona-Alicante motorway, with its gas stations and restaurant centres, for a period of five years in exchange for an annual fee.
A business that has attracted the main operators of service stations in Spain, the oil groups, and that has had a clear winner, the Italian Eni. The transalpine oil company has acquired four of the nine service areas.
Specifically, the company will assume those of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and Baix Ebre in Tarragona, that of La Ribera in Cabanes (Castellón) and that of Sagunto in Valencia. Eni went with Autogrill as a specialized operator for catering establishments, a brand that was already present in several of these centers.
For their part, Galp and Cepsa have been awarded two service areas each. The Portuguese manage the La Plana in Castellón and the San Antonio in Alicante. For its part, Cepsa has acquired the one with the highest annual fee, the one in Castellón in Benicarló, and another in Alicante, the one in La Marina near Benidorm.
The other service area, La Safor near Gandía (Valencia), has been left in the hands of BP.
The big loser of the public tender has been Repsol. The network of the Spanish oil company was presented to the nine lots in contention, but has been left without any of the stations.
Other candidates that presented offers to some of the stations and have been left empty have been Disa and the consortium of CHM and LCA.
Annual canon of 16 million
The winners will pay an annual canon of 15.9 million euros to the State as a whole, with which during the five years planned the public coffers will enter almost 80 million.
