Exclude folders in a backup with All In One WP Migration

Folders that All In One Migration takes into account

When making , the plugin takes into account only the . So if you have other folders, for example in the root of your site and they do not correspond to WordPress, they will not be considered as part of the backup.

However, other folders such as where the largest number of WordPress files are stored, if you consider it as part of the backup.

The exclusion is applied to the wp-content folder

Even though the wp-content folder is a WordPress folder, some subfolders we may not want to be part of the backup, for example folders created by other plugins or image folders.

All In One WP Migration has Hooks that can be used via code to exclude subfolders from the wp-content folder, however there is a simpler way to do the exclusion via a plugin.

Plugin to exclude folders from All In One WP Migration

The plugin that we will use will be , it is a free plugin that is in the repository of .

After installing and activating this plugin, we can locate the configuration screen in the WordPress administration menu, in Settings > AIO WP Migration Folder Excluder.

Upon entering you will see the configuration screen, which is quite simple, you just have to add the relative path of the folders that are under wp-content that you want to exclude, you have to separate the paths with a comma.

When saving you will see that all the folder paths to exclude will appear in the lower section.

When you now make a new backup with the plugin all those folders listed under wp-content will be excluded

Do you want to exclude the uploads folder?

By default the plugin does not exclude WordPress core foldersso if you want to exclude the uploads folder a possible alternative is to temporarily rename it and exclude it with the exclude plugin, make the backup and then rename it to its original name again.

As you have seen, the plugin All in One WP Migration by default it packs all the folders including everything found in wp-content, which is the folder that grows the most in a normal WordPress installation.

However you can exclude subfolders of this folder using the Folder Excluder for AIO WP Migration plugin.
