Gorillas do not get the accounts: leave Spain and three other European countries

The German delivery platform Gorillas has decided to focus its presence on its five key markets (Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States), with a clearer profitability trend, and to stop operating in others such as Spain.

The company has assured that it will study possible strategic options for the brand in Spain, Italy, Belgium and Denmark, and that it will cut some 300 office jobs.

In this sense, the platform has highlighted that currently 90% of its income comes from these five key markets that have entered a clear path towards profitability, which is why the company has decided to refine its focus to continue growing in Germany. , France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States, where it sees great potential in the near future.

“In Italy, Spain, Denmark and Belgium, very attractive markets in their own right, we are analyzing all possible strategic options for the Gorillas brand,” he announced.

As a consequence of this change in focus, the company also assumes a change in its personnel needs, for which reason it will undertake an adjustment in the size of its global workforce. “We are beginning discussions today and, in the coming weeks, we will continue with the consultation processes of local employees in each market, as appropriate,” the company said.

The ultra-fast delivery company landed in our country almost a year ago, in full swing of delivery and competition between new delivery platforms that were growing as a result of the increase in orders derived from the pandemic. Its business model was based on ghost supermarkets where delivery people received orders through the Gorillas application.

Since its arrival in Madrid, its services have been extended to other cities such as Alicante, Barcelona or Valencia and, recently, they reached an agreement to offer customers of the food delivery platform the possibility of ordering fresh and essential products from grocery markets and local stores.
