As occurs in other officials, the salary of a Civil Guard moves according to different parameters that are influenced by various types of complements and seniority in the position.

Their salary is divided into basic or complementary remuneration, like the rest of the civil servants. In the first are the base salary, extra pay and supplements for seniority in the form of trienniums.

Royal Decree 950/2005 sets the basic salary for the Civil Guard, with a base salary of** 10,823 euros per year** for guards (category C1), 14,132 for sergeants (A2) and 16,071 for the captains (A1).

Requirements to be a Civil Guard and how to register

Basic requirements include:

-Have Spanish nationality

-Be of legal age and not exceed the maximum age of 40 years

-No criminal record

-Not being prosecuted or having an open oral trial in any judicial proceeding for intentional crime

-Be in possession of the title of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO)

-The commitment to bear arms and use them in the cases established by law

-Have a type B driving license

-Do not have tattoos that derive from constitutional values, against the Civil Guard, that contain discriminatory motives. Now, thanks to new regulations, it can be visible, although with limitations.

The physical tests that are requested from the new Civil Guards

The selection process is based on several exams, one of them theoretical-practical, a psychotechnical test, and physical tests. These latest oppositions, as published in the BOE, are divided into four tests:

– 60 meter race to score speed: 10 seconds for men and 11 for women

-2,000 meter race to score endurance in less than 9 minutes and 25 seconds for men and 11 minutes for women

-Arm extensions (push-ups) to measure the power of the upper body. The calls vary but they used to request 16 push-ups in a row for men and 11 for women

-And 50 meters in the pool with freestyle to evaluate aquatic skills in less than 70 seconds for men and 75 for women
