How much money will Carlos Alcaraz take if he wins the US Open?

Carlos Alcaraz will play this Sunday the grand final of the US Open, his first final in a Grand Slam. The Spanish tennis player will face the Norwegian Casper Ruud (10:00 p.m., Eurosport) after defeating the American and Rafa Nadal’s executioner, Frances Tiafoe, in the semifinals.

To reach the final of the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz has had to eliminate a few rivals. In the first round he got rid of Argentine Sebastián Báez (5-7, 5-7, 0-2); in the second round he did the same with fellow Argentine Federico Coria (2-6, 1-6, 5-7); in third he outpointed American Jenson Brooksby (3-6, 3-6, 3-6); in the round of 16 he did the same with Croatian Marin Cilic (4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6); in the quarterfinals he took on the Italian Jannik Sinner (3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 5-7, 3-6); and in the semifinals he ‘killed’ Frances Tiafoe (6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3).

If Carlos Alcaraz, at 19, wins the US Open, he will reach number one in the ATP, being the earliest tennis player to reach this position. Until now that privilege is still held by the Australian Lleyton Hewitt, with 20 years, 8 months and 23 days. The Murcian’s rival in the final, Casper Rudd, 23, could also reach top spot if he wins the final.

In economic terms, Carlos Alcaraz could pocket 2,622,000 euros. On the other hand, if he loses the final, the Murcian tennis player would take 1,311,000 euros. A figure higher than what they took, and, although lower than what he won.

For his part, the Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal, whose fortune throughout tennis exceeds 130 million euros, took 449,195 euros after losing in the quarterfinals of the US Open.
