How to get Youtube API Key

I’m not going to tell you about how to install a plugin in WordPress, in Joomla or a module in PrestaShop to import videos or have a functionality that you so much want to integrate into your website so that through the Youtube API connect with your application and thus obtain external data.

You already know that!we have seen it hundreds of times in hundreds of and the suffocating heat of this summer is not enough to always talk about the same thing, sometimes it is tiresome and your time is very valuable.

However, if I want to talk to you about the intermediate process, the one that many mention in their posts or articles but that very few explain in detail so that users like you know the details of this process and can obtain the Youtube API Key to connect web applications with plugins or modules.

I want to tell you that although it is a technical issue, in the end we are going to talk about entering sites, locating options, activating some of them and obtaining precise data to configure plugins or modules, the idea is to expose this topic in an affordable way for you and if it is visual, even better, that we save on explanations.

We are going to put a WordPress plugin as a scenario, any one works, as part of the configuration process, and that requires us to pass a public key and one Secret passwordsomething very common in web applications that connect to external services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Google+ and many others.

We have already told you about this process from time to time, in other articles, but since you probably do not know or do not remember, I take the opportunity to refresh it graphically to obtain the Youtube API Key.

To obtain the Youtube API Key (Google) you have to go to the .

Access the service to create a project.

Click the button Create a project (Create a project) and name the project. (Wait a few seconds for the creation to complete it may take time!)

In the left sidebar, select the option APIs and Authentication.

A submenu will be displayed in which you must click on APIs.

3 columns appear with different types of API, depending on which service you want to create it for. We focus on Youtube APIs (at the end) and click YouTube Data API.

We click on the button enable api (we will use the available version v3) which is the usual one to obtain data from the YouTube channel, videos, playlists and channel management from external applications.

If the activation is carried out without errors, you will see the following warning on the screen.

Ok, we already have the API generated, good! Now all you have to do is get the Credentials of this to be able to use them in our plugin or web application.

click on Credentials (left menu).

As what interests us is to obtain a public key, we are going to click on the blue button Create new key in the option Public API Access

This action will display a popup window with 4 buttons. You must click on the gray button server key.

In the next screen you can add one or several IPs that will be able to receive and send requests to the API using the activated key. Leave it blank to accept all requests.

We already have the key for server applications, customized for your plugin or web application.

Copy the API key and add it to the API key field of the installed WordPress plugin.

Congratulations! You already have the connection active for your plugin to communicate with the YouTube service (in this example shown) to obtain data from the corresponding service or channel.

See how easy it was!despite being many screens and several steps, I am sure that the illustrated process has helped you to obtain the keys of the Google APIsin this example for YouTube, although they can be used for other plugins or extensions, in WordPress, Joomla, PrestaShop or another CMS that requires it, since the process is always the same, except for the part where you decide what type of API you need and for which Google service.
