Ikea launches ‘Store XS’, a new store concept in Spain that will open in Parque Corredor

Ikea has chosen the Parque Corredor shopping center, located in the Madrid town of Torrejón de Ardoz, to open its first store in Spain under the “Ikea Store XS” concept.

These are stores that are halfway between the typical traditional megastores of about 30,000 m2 that the Swedish giant has accustomed us to and the local stores that it is establishing in the center of large cities.

As confirmed by different sources in the sector to elEconomista, Ikea has already signed the contract with Redvco, owner of the shopping center, to open a store in the summer of 2022 that will have some 7,500 square meters and that will employ some 175 people.

In this store, a part of the Ikea assortment will be offered on display, since due to size, as with urban stores, the entire catalog cannot be present, but the customer will also be able to access all the products either physically or by purchasing online at the same establishment.

With this opening, Ikea will test a concept in Spain that it is already implementing in other large markets such as Moscow, New York and Paris, and that it is launching with the aim of becoming a more accessible brand through new formats, in this case on the outskirts of the cities with premises that will move between 5,000 m2 and 10,000 m2, as confirmed by Ikea to this medium.

This new model adds to the urban concept, which was launched globally and in a pioneering way in Spain a few years ago and which works with stores between 500 and 1,000 m2. As explained by the Swedish firm, in fact, a new urban store in Las Rozas is scheduled to open in August.

Redevco, landlord of Ikea in Madrid

The agreement between Redevco and Ikea is not the first of both companies, since the manager is the current landlord of Ikea in its most central store in the capital, located on Goya street.

With the new alliance, Parque Corredor expands the commercial offer in this way after having undergone a complete reform in which 45 million euros have been invested.

In fact, the entry of Ikea joins other major brands that have reinforced their commitment to this shopping center, such as Inditex, which has opened one of the largest Zara stores in the world in this property with 3,800 square meters, as well as Bershka, Stradivarius and Pull & Bear stores; Primark, Kiabi, H&M, Sfera, El Corte Inglés, Primor, Sprinter and JD Sport, among others.
