Madrid changes the schedule of the Regulated Parking Service (SER): at what time can you park for free

Summer and Madrid empties. A constant of every year that for this 2021 and, specifically, this month of August, it is happening again, which reduces the volume of cars in the capital in many ways. For this reason, for a few years the City Council has limited the hours of its (SER), to allow better entry into the payment area and a comfortable way of parking.

In order to persuade many drivers to enter its central core, Madrid, like other large European and Spanish cities, has spent years charging for parking on its busiest streets. It is what is known as the parking meters that, in the case of the capital, are under the acronym SER.

A service that usually works from Monday to Saturday, with uninterrupted hours from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., except on the sixth day of the week, which is enabled until 3:00 p.m. With particular success, since the , since the arrival of August is very high, this timetable has been readjusted for a few years in order to facilitate the fact that there are fewer cars in the capital.

A characteristic that for this 2021 has been repeated again and so from this Monday, August 2, the Madrid SER will have a new schedule. From Monday to Saturday, only from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the first five days of the week reduce your parking charge by six hours.

More free hours this summer

In the same way, from 3:01 p.m. to 8:59 a.m., from Monday to Saturday, as well as on Sundays and holidays, it will be free to park in Madrid. The service will also be free on very special days that the City Council indicates for very extreme reasons (as happened on the hardest days of snow and ice by Filomena). For this month of August, the festival of the Assumption of the Virgin falls on a Sunday (the 15th), so there will, in principle, be no more free days than those that close the week.

Rates and maximum hours per zone are maintained despite the change

Hours that take over both the blue and green zones and with their usual rates, maintaining the difference that the former are somewhat cheaper and allow parking for up to four hours (the latter only for two hours). Once the maximum period of time has expired, an hour must pass before you can park again in the same neighborhood, as is the case throughout the year.
