Mercadona ‘takes’ Lisbon: it will open its first two stores in the Portuguese capital in 2022

The Mercadona supermarket chain has announced this Friday that in 2022 it will open its first two stores in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, after the expansion that began in Portugal in July 2019, which to date has led to the opening of 24 stores and which will be It will complete with another five more until the end of this 2021.

According to the statement, the two new supermarkets with which the expansion in Lisbon will begin will be located in the areas of Setúbal and Montijo and for this purpose it has opened a hiring process for 100 workers for both stores.

Mercadona will open another five stores by the end of the year in the cities of Matosinhos, Valongo, Vila do Conde, Felgueiras and Santa Maria da Feira, all in the north of the country.

In addition to the two supermarkets in Lisbon, in 2022 it plans to open stores in Guimarães, Braga and Póvoa de Varzim (north), for which reason it has also opened a process for hiring personnel for said establishments.

The chain also has an Innovation Center in Matosinhos (Porto) and a Logistics Block in Pñova de Varzim, where more than 250 people work to supply all the Portuguese stores.

Mercadona closed the year 2020 with a team of 1,700 workers and an investment of 113 million euros.
