Why the custom.css file is used
If you make the modifications in the original files of the template or modules, these modifications can be lost when you update a module, prestashop or template since they are overwritten, instead the modifications that you have in the custom file are not lost since that file It doesn’t change if you update.
About the problem you had and it was that in the mobile version, the catalog came out without products, I verify that now it displays the menu with the categories and responds well.
