Samsung has renewed its commitment to folding smartphones with two new models, the evolution of the Fold and Flip; in the case of the latter, it has achieved this by lowering the price to the level of a premium smartphone.
Many of us believed that we were still years away from reaching this point, but Samsung has anticipated all forecasts. The new Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a folding smartphone that will cost “only” 1059 euros; It is true that it is still a figure beyond the reach of many, but it is the first time that a folding smartphone is as accessible as a “premium” mobile.
It is a jump as important as the name. Indeed, Samsung has jumped from the Z Flip to the Z Flip 3, to unify its range of foldables with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, also announced today. A number change that also represents a large number of improvements, some of them shared with its “brother”. For example, this will be one of the first two foldables to obtain IPX8 water resistance, so we can get it wet without fear.
The device has also received changes to the chassis, made of the most resistant aluminum used by Samsung to date, and with glass protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, which also translates into a smaller and thinner device, but with the same weight and components. pointers.
Curiously, the biggest change at the hardware level is seen with the mobile closed. Let’s remember that, unlike the Fold, with the Flip the objective of using a folding screen is not to gain more useful space, but on the contrary, to reduce the size of the device, which can be put in a folded pocket taking up very little space, and open it to enjoy a 6.7-inch screen. It’s an effect that will be very nostalgic for those who used flip phones years ago, before the advent of smartphones.
But you no longer need to open it to use some of its features, thanks to the new 1.9-inch Super AMOLED 260 x 512 resolution outer screen. It’s large enough to be very useful for viewing the time and date without need to open the mobile, and opens the door to new interesting functions such as the possibility of taking a selfie with the rear cameras. Another function accessible from the mini screen is Samsung Pay, to make payments without having to remove the card or open the mobile.

Samsung has chosen not to use a front-facing camera under the screen as in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, surely to control costs. Aesthetically, the device remains as iconic as its predecessors, perhaps even more so thanks to the use of two colors, with the part that houses the cameras and the rear screen always in black; We will also have a wide variety to choose from: cream, green, lavender, black, grey, white and pink, the latter three only through the Samsung website.
