Nissan Moco, Lancia Marica, Ford Corrida… the cars with the strangest names

Throughout the history of the automobile, brands have launched models whose names have gone down in history in some countries by acquiring an unattractive and, at times, certainly controversial connotation. In Spain, several examples can be found. |

The most recent has starred it. This name is used in Galician to refer vulgarly to vagina, which has sparked sarcasm and jokes on social networks.

Are none of you Galician? 😱 I hope that in Spain you don’t call it that 🤣

The Korean firm, however, explained that its name comes from the Kona district, located on the Big Island of Hawaii.

But Hyundai has not been the only brand that has chosen an unfortunate name. Mazda, Nissan, Ford or Lamborghini, among others, are just some of the manufacturers that have named some of their vehicles with some of the strangest names:

nissan snot

The small Nissan minivan was manufactured from 2001 to 2016 and was offered in green, which together with its slogan (‘El Moco you can save it anywhere’), size and name, did not go unnoticed in Spain despite the fact that it did not come to market. Japan and India are its markets.

Mazda Laputa

Manufactured from 1999 to 2006 in the United States and Japan, its name was based on a fictional place in the book ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ by Jonathan Swift.

Kia Borrego

It is a large SUV that the Korean brand presented in the form of a concept in 2005 as Kia Mesa, and finally changed its name to market it two years later in the United States. In Korea it was sold under the name of Kia Mohave.

Lancia Marica

It was presented in 1969 and was built on the mechanics of the Flaminia 2.8 3C by Ghia, an Italian company dedicated to body design. It did not come to Spain.

Tata Zica

It began to be sold in India in 2016, however, as a result of the outbreak of the homonymous virus that affected Latin America, it decided to change the name at the beginning of last year. Zica came from the abbreviation of Zippy Car (energetic car).

Ford Corrida

It was born and died as a prototype in the 70s. This oval signature model with ‘falcon wing’ doors and a sporty design for the time would hardly have been sold in Spain under that name.

Lamborghini Reventon

The prestigious Italian manufacturer presented this uniquely designed sports car at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, of which only 20 units were built. It was as unique as its price, which exceeded one million euros.

Mitsubishi Pajero

It is an SUV that the Japanese brand has been manufacturing from 1982 to the present, it is now in its fourth generation. Its name was nicknamed in reference to ‘Leopardus pajeros’, a feline known as gato pajero in South America, although the name was eventually changed to ‘Montero’ in Spanish-speaking countries.

volkswagen jetta

This model of the German firm has been manufactured since 1979 as a sedan variant of the Volkswagen Golf. In addition to Spain, Germany, the US, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Austria are the markets it has reached. His name, homophone with the definition of impudence in Spanish, made him not go unnoticed.
