Pascual plans to grow to cover the productive capacity of Gurb in 2023

Calidad Pascual wants to reach the maximum production capacity of its plant in Gurb (Barcelona) in 2023, as announced this Friday by the president of the Burgos family business, Tomás Pascual, at the closing ceremony in Barcelona of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations .

The Gurb facilities, opened 15 years ago, can package 200 million liters of milk per year, but currently it does not reach 150, among the slightly more than 120 that it packages for Calidad Pascual and the slightly more than 20 that it packages for the Catalan cooperative Llet Nostra, within the framework of an industrial contract started in May 2018.

Investment of 15 million

Tomás Pascual is confident that his own growth and that of Llet Nostra will make it possible to take advantage of the full potential of the plant within three years, after an investment of 15 million euros between 2018 and 2019 to modernize equipment.

The latest financial data for Calidad Pascual is from 2018, when it had a turnover of 695 million euros, 3% more than the previous year, of which 104 corresponded to Catalonia, representing 15% of the total.

Tomás Pascual highlighted the importance of the Catalan market for the group, and exemplified that it is the first territory for consumption of its Bezoya water brand.

New strategic plan

Calidad Pascual has launched the 2020-2023 strategic plan, but has not yet publicly disclosed its details. In general terms, Tomás Pascual aimed at diversification and greater efficiency objectives, as well as the search for new market niches, adding references to dairy products and adding value to the raw material.

On this last point, he referred to the business potential of milk fat -which is sold for example for confectionery-, whey and protein.

All this to counteract the drop in milk consumption, which in Spain has fallen by 30% since the year 2000, he explained. “We have had to innovate and we will continue to innovate,” she stressed.
