Seat proposes a new ERTE that covers the transport strike and the war

The Seat management has communicated to the unions that it will replace the ERTE that it currently applies due to the lack of semiconductors with another that will also cover other scenarios, such as possible stoppages due to the carrier strike or the war in Ukraine, which at the moment is not have affected the Martorell (Barcelona) factory.

The new ERTE (Temporary Employment Regulation File) will begin on April 1 and will last until June 30, with a maximum affectation of some 11,000 workers, who are the ones who carry out production tasks, they have explained to Efe and elEconomista union and company sources.

The characteristics of the file in terms of measures, number of workers and duration is the same as the one currently underway and with which the company tries to manage the supply problems that affect the entire global automotive industry.

The reason for the change in the ERTE is that this March 31 ends the legal framework for temporary files linked to Covid, so Seat will complete the schedule initially planned with the usual figure before the pandemic, linked to organizational and productive causes.

Sources from the Seat works council have explained to elEconomista that the new ERTE seeks to have sufficient flexibility to “recover the maximum number of cars” as soon as possible, since the demand exists: “There are customers who are waiting up to nine months to have his car.”

In any case, they have recognized that 2022 is a complex year due to supply difficulties and because the company is in the midst of negotiating the new collective agreement.
