SEPE notice: the renewal system of the job application is changed

The Public State Employment Service (SEPE), under the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, has recalled through its official Twitter account that since July 1 the renewal of the job application is not automatic. Thus, he recommends contacting the regional employment service to find out the renewal date

The automatic renewal of the job application was approved, with the entry into force of Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, 2020, by which the state of alarm was declared in Spain. Thus, since the end of the emergency situation, most of the autonomous communities have returned to the previous system: job seekers carry out the renewal. However, the portal explains that the Valencian Community, the Community of Madrid, Castilla y León and Ceuta maintain the automatic procedure.

What happens if I forget to renew the job application

The SEPE explains on its website that to receive unemployment benefits it is mandatory to register as a job seeker and renew the claim while said benefits are being collected.

If you forget to renew the claim, for a minor infraction that may mean the loss of a month’s benefit. If you do not renew it a second time, you will lose three months. If it is repeated a third time, you will lose six months, and if you do not renew for the fourth time, you will lose the benefit.
