Seven Galician islands to enjoy on vacation

Galicia has almost 1,500 kilometers of coastline, characterized by its rocky cliffs and fantastic breakwaters. But it is also a community full of small islands, archipelagos and islets that promise unique natural landscapes.

1. Cies Islands

The most famous Galician islands in the world are the Cíes Islands. They are located at the beginning of the Ría de Vigo. Every year they are visited by thousands of tourists, due to their beauty and unique beaches. Rodas beach is listed as one of the most beautiful in the country. The Cíes offer visitors endless natural activities, such as hiking trails.

On the islands, tourists can taste the best Galician cuisine. To get to them it is possible to do it on the boats that depart from Cangas, Baiona or Vigo.

2. Ons Islands

The Ons Islands are much less known than the Cíes Islands, although their spectacular nature is unique. They are somewhat more rugged, but equally beautiful. They are located in the Ría de Pontevedra. It has two more or less large islands and numerous small islets. About 80 people still live in Ons. Despite being classified as a National Park, even today it is possible to stay in them through free camping.

3. Island of Arousa

It is the largest island in all of Galicia. About 5,000 inhabitants live there. Since the 19th century, Illa de Arousa has been one of the most important salting towns in the Community. Accessing the island is very simple, since there is a bridge that connects it with the peninsula. A visit to the port of this island is a unique experience.

4. Toja Island

Known worldwide for its hot springs, Isla de la Toja is a unique place in the world. It is also located in the Ría de Arousa, just in front of O Grove. It can also be reached by car, crossing the bridge. The Gran Balneario de la Toja is the most visited point of tourist interest on the island. In addition, it has a golf course, casino and even a small shopping center.

5. San Simon Island

The Island of San Simón, in the Ría de Vigo, is linked to the Island of San Antón through a bridge. You can also visit the islets of San Bartolomé and San Norberto. On the island you can visit numerous monuments of historical buildings, as well as the Museum and the Aquarium. To visit this Galician island, prior authorization is required.

6. Sisargas Islands

A small archipelago of the Costa da Morte. They are located in front of Malpica de Bergantiños and are three beautiful islands. Today they are completely uninhabited and due to their location it is common to see all kinds of cetaceans from them.

7. Pancha Island

Another of the Galician islands that is worth visiting. It is located at the mouth of the Eo River. It is possible to access it without complications, since it is connected to the ground through a bridge. Its spectacular lighthouse is one of the main attractions of this small island of Galicia.
