Text Reflection Effect in Photoshop

Create a reflection of a text that is reflected at the bottom, using Photoshop.

Let’s see a little tutorial on making a reflection effect on a text layer. We use Photoshop as a graphic design program and a non-destructive technique through layer masks.

The effect we want to achieve is like a text that appears reflected at the bottom. The reflection effect is very easy to achieve in Photoshop, by duplicating the text layer itself, flipping it vertically, and then partially removing the reflection and applying transparency. But hey, we are not going to anticipate anything and we will better see it step by step.

The result that we are going to achieve with this practice would be similar to this:

1) We create the text with the text tool and write what we want.

We have achieved the relief effect that this image has with a Photoshop layer effect. To get there, click on the layer menu – layer style – Bevel and relief. The layer effects menu can also be accessed by double-clicking on the layer where we have the text, in the layers window, and then selecting bevel and emboss from among all the possible effects. But this bump effect is also not very essential for this tutorial.

2) We duplicate the layer, flip it vertically and position it below the text

To duplicate the layer we can right click the mouse on the layer in the layers window and we will find an option to duplicate it. We can also access this option in the Layer menu – Duplicate layer.

To flip it vertically we do it from the Edit menu – Transform – Flip vertical.

To place it, we take the move tool, which is above and to the right of the tools menu, next to the selection tool.

3) We change the opacity and make a layer mask

To change the opacity/transparency can be done from the layers window. We make it a bit more transparent, because the reflections are usually dimmer than the actual objects. An opacity of 50% or 60% may be good.

Now we want the text to fade down a bit, because the reflections are usually softer at the bottom than at the top. For this it is good to make one. For this let’s look at this image.

Once the layer mask is created, we need to make a gradient to hide part of the reflection layer. We make the gradient with the corresponding tool, in the layer that we want to partially hide.

With this we are done! You can see the resulting effect below.

The practice that we have seen to create the reflection effect does not have much difficulty, I hope that it seems to all of you. But anyway, if you want, this same effect, with the layer mask technique, is posted on video here: .
