The big problem of Theme Forest – .com

Ok, I admit it. The problem is not only with Theme Forest, it is with many other Theme developers. But considering that Theme Forest is the main seller of themes (themes, templates) of WordPress in the world, bears much of the blame.

I have had enough of telling this over and over again, and I know that I will have to repeat it over and over again: The themes should not add functionality to WordPress. That’s territory plugins. NEVER from themes. Why? Just because all those functionalities that come with a theme, go with it. Themes should be limited to DESIGN. Nothing more.

In other words, if you install one of those themes that has I-don’t-know-how many slides, shortcodes, custom-post-types, etc. You are going to lose everything the moment you want to change the theme. And believe me, the brown that you have to eat is of enormous dimensions.

For sample, a button. I leave you a couple of videos in which you can see what I mean. Let’s start with a video titled “The Dark Secret of Divi”, in which you can see what happens with the “shortcodes” of the themes when you change the theme…

As you can see, the result is quite devastating. Not only do you lose the entire format, but you are also going to have to spend a few months cleaning the web of all that garbage that has been embedded to the bones of the web.

But now let’s look at another example. In this case we will see how directly our content disappears completely with the change of theme:

You have already seen. Once again, “everything that comes with a theme, goes with it.” As you have seen in the example, all our content created with the theme’s functionalities disappears the moment we change it. Obviously it can be recovered through the database, making a thousand inventions, but it’s a little brown that you don’t want to find it (believe me, I’ve had to fix this problem for quite a few clients). Also, that’s why plugins exist. To extend the functionality of WordPress regardless of the theme you are using.

And you will wonder… And why do the developers do them like this? Aha, well the answer is easy, simple and double. To begin with, because announcing to great fanfare that their themes have a thousand and one stories, functionalities and strange things helps them a lot to sell more to all those who don’t know what the theme is about… and on the other hand so that you continue using his theme forever, of course! If you technically depend on him (what is called theme locking)They know that you are going to continue with their theme and you are not going to go with better ones.

So… moral: Do not use themes that have functionalities. Or at least, do not use the functionalities of those themes. Skip them, as if they did not exist, or you can even cancel them. But come on, yours would be to use a plain and simple theme that only provides design. In short… themes = design, plugins = features 😉
