The footer is the element of a web interface located at the bottom of it, under the page body.

The footer is an optional element, which usually contains very specific information.

If the page is very high, such that the user is forced to use the browser’s vertical scroll bar, the footer usually contains an auxiliary menu that allows the user to continue browsing the website without having to return to the page. find the main menu.

It may also contain a specific menu, in which you usually show links to very specific services on the website, such as advertising, contact form, job offers, conditions of use, security policies, etc.

One of the most common uses of the footer today is to display information about the company that owns the website or its direct manager. This is due in Spain to the new Law on Services of the Information Society (LSSI) and electronic commerce, which obliges all websites that generate direct (sales) or indirect (advertising) benefits to display on each page the name of the company or manager and a valid physical or email address. This information is usually complemented with the telephone and fax number and information on copyright of the contents of the web.

The contents of the footer can appear aligned in any of the accepted ways (left, centered, right or justified), although it is normal for them to appear centered on the screen. If they appear aligned to the right or to the left, it should always be done with respect to the other elements of the page that define the main line of alignments on that side.

Although it is not mandatory to put a footer on a web page, it is advisable, since apart from showing specific information, to which many users are already accustomed, it establishes a delimitation at the end of the document, which helps the viewer to visually define the different areas of the page and avoids displaying content “stuck” to the bottom of the web browser window.
