The most expensive emerald on the planet could cost more than 300 million dollars

What could be the largest emerald discovered in the world to date weighs 360 kilos and is over 1,300 meters high. It was found in Pernambuco, Brazil, and the discovery only became known due to its sale. The anonymous owner of this precious stone could have paid about 310 million dollars for it.

The largest emerald in the world was located in the famous Carnaíba Mine. This mineral mine is not the first time that it fills the pages of newspapers, since in 2001 it also allowed a team of miners to find a maxi emerald of somewhat smaller proportions than this one. This is the emerald known as Bahía, which weighed more than 340 kilos and was sold for 340 million dollars.

This emerald was found at a depth of 200 meters and the constant work and dedication of 10 miners for a whole week was necessary to extract the precious stone. According to information provided by the buyer of the largest emerald in the world, it would have a total of 180,000 carats. Although it is not yet known if it will be suitable for use in jewelry.

However, the buyer’s lawyer has indicated that he hopes to show it in various museums in Brazil. For its part, the Bahía Mineral cooperative has been in charge of extracting the stone. This company, dedicated to the location of minerals and precious stones in mines, already has experience in the field. Bahía Mineral was the firm that located the other maxi emerald in the same mine 16 years ago.
