The National Court sentences the Leonese businessman José Luis Ulibarri to 18 months in prison for the ‘Gürtel’

The National Court has sentenced the Leonese businessman José Luis Ulibarri to 18 months in prison for the crimes of prevarication, fraud against public administrations, document falsification and a crime against the Public Treasury within one of the Gürtel cases.

The Criminal Chamber of the National Court has condemned the Popular Party as a lucrative participant to pay up to 204,198.64 euros for the actions of the ‘Gürtel’ plot in the Madrid municipality of Boadilla del Monte. This is the third sentence of the court to the popular after the sentences for the first period of the ‘Gürtel’ and for the use of the ‘box b’ for the works of the party headquarters in Genoa 13.

In a 303-page sentence, to which Europa Press has had access, the magistrates of the Second Section establish that the popular must pay that amount with direct and joint responsibility of the one who was the leader of the plot, Francisco Correa, his number two, Pablo Crespo, former mayor Arturo González Panero, ‘El Albondiguilla’, or those who were managers of the Municipal Land and Housing Company (EMSV).

The ruling, which sentences a total of 23 people, establishes the highest prison sentence for ‘El Albondiguilla’, who in the final phase of the trial received harsh reproaches from the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office. The former councilor must serve up to 36 years and 11 months in prison for crimes of illicit association, passive bribery, fraud against public administrations, document falsification in commercial documents, influence peddling, money laundering and embezzlement of public funds.

The trial sessions for this piece by Boadilla in the puzzle that is ‘Gürtel’ and which lasted between the months of November and January also sat a series of builders who participated in the plot to obtain a series of contracts in collusion with the City Council and EMSV itself.

The court sentenced the ex-owner of Constructora Hispánica Alfonso García Pozuelo, the ex-counselor of Teconsa Rafael Martínez Molinero and the businessman José Luis Ulibarri to one and a half years in jail. The former administrator of Consulting and Investment Management (CGI) Jacobo Gordon, for his part, must serve one year and four months.

Thus, the Chamber establishes a sentence of two years in prison for the Leonese businessman José Luis Martínez Parra and one year in prison for the architect Antonio de Miguel Reyes, who replaced Francisco Correa’s brother-in-law within the aforementioned EMSV. For his part, Rodolfo Benigno has been sentenced to two years in prison. José Luis Ulibarri receives a sentence of 1.5 years, since he applies the extenuating confession. The Leonese businessman is one of the two partners of Radio Televisión Castilla y León.

For the former president of L’Oreal in Spain Carlos Martínez Massa, the court sets four years in prison, while it sentences Juan Jesús Siguero, the successor of ‘El Albondiguilla’ at the head of the City Council, to one year and six months. The former technical director of the Department of Sports Juan Carlos Rey Rico has also been sentenced to one year and six months while the head of the Aurantia Group, Gonzalo Naranjo, will serve two years in prison.
