The Pact of Toledo will study decriminalizing the pension with 40 or more years of contributions

The Pact of Toledo will study the claim of the Association of Retirees with more than 40 years of contributions (Asjubi40) to eliminate the reduction coefficients that apply to early retirement in cases where contributions of 40 or more years concur.

The president of the parliamentary Commission of the Pact of Toledo, Magdalena Valerio, has promised to transfer this matter to the political parties after meeting with representatives of this association and with the Secretary of Social Policies, Employment and Social Security of the UGT, Mari Carmen Barrera .

The meeting studied the possibility of including this analysis in one of the 20 recommendations that the Toledo Pact has reviewed and that could be closed this year, as urged by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá.

The spokesman for Asjubi40 Francisco Martín has indicated that, after meeting with Valerio, he has verified that there is a good disposition between the political parties and has urged that they not “lose the initial consensus” that the deputies transferred to him to improve the conditions of this group of retirees.

Martín has recalled that the application of these reduction coefficients is assuming a very unfair discrimination and a lifelong damage to early retirees for many years and in this sense he has recalled that Escrivá already stated during his appearance in this commission that it was “a situation inherently unfair”.

Barrera has influenced, through a statement, that during the 2008 crisis and, “thanks to the deregulation of the ERE brought about by the labor reform, almost five million people were fired, most of whom were over 55 years of age.” Along the same lines, he has considered that it is time to eliminate the time limit to apply the safeguard clause in the case of ERE.

“These people have seen their pension cut by up to 40%, due to the fact of having retired early,” he stressed, while Asjubi40 recalls that since 2005 various non-legal proposals have been approved in eleven regional parliaments, which have urged regional governments to suspend these coefficients.
