The SEPE warning: this is what you must do to avoid losing your unemployment benefit

To collect any of the unemployment benefits managed by the SEPE (State Public Employment Service) you must prove a series of requirements and conditions that, in general, simply have to be maintained at the time of your application and throughout the period of collection thereof.

In many cases, the citizen does not have to do anything else, but there are certain situations in which the beneficiaries of the benefits have to periodically notify the SEPE that they continue to meet these requirements or, simply, renew the benefit. This is what happens with the unemployment subsidy in several of its modalities, such as that intended for people with family responsibilities who do not have the right to unemployment or that of people to obtain that contributory unemployment benefit.

The SEPE has warned of the need to renew the unemployment benefit to continue collecting it and the importance of doing so within the established dates so as not to lose money from these benefits.

In the first place, the citizen must know that, just as when he applied for it for the first time and that during the collection period, when he is preparing to request the renewal of the subsidy, he must comply with the requirements and conditions applicable in each case. Only in this way can you worry about the following central issue: renew on time so that the collection of that subsidy is not interrupted.

The SEPE gives the keys: in order not to lose the right to the benefit at any time and to guarantee the maintenance of the collection without interruptions, the renewal of the subsidy must take place “between the day following the date of expiration of the semester period and the fifteen days following the the expiration date of the payment period of the last monthly payment (fifteenth day or the next business day of the month)”.

If the citizen does not renew the unemployment subsidy on time, they should know that they will lose the right to collect it from that very moment and will only recover it when they request that renewal. The time elapsed until then will not be paid to you later. The SEPE informs that “the subsidy will be extended with effect from the day following the application” and that in these cases the payment of the benefit will be deducted “as many days as have passed from the day following the expiration of the semester period until the date of application, both inclusive”.

How to renew an unemployment benefit: these are the options
