The company has launched these four online supermarkets in the capital of Zaragoza where customers can buy around 2,000 products online through the application, which are delivered by their delivery men in 10 minutes.
These four online stores have opened in Zaragoza as part of the expansion plan that Getir, based in Istanbul, is carrying out, with the Aragonese capital being the fourth city to open in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.
With the opening of these four online supermarkets, Getir begins to operate in Zaragoza, implementing its differentiated business model. The company has four stores -the premises are for rent-, which are similar to conventional supermarkets, but with the particularity that they are not open to the public. In this way, customers have to make the purchase online through the application and choosing between the 2,000 products -the most common brands are included- that are offered in food or cleaning, among other sections, according to company sources. to elEconomista
After making the purchase in the application, the order is prepared in the physical store by the employees who are in the supermarket, which is picked up by the delivery men for home delivery in a few minutes.
The four online stores have the same products, but the company has chosen different locations in order to cover practically the entire city of Zaragoza and shorten delivery time. In addition, they all operate seven days a week, day and night.
Getir, which began operating in Spain in mid-September, makes deliveries with electric motorcycles and bicycles. In addition, all the delivery men have protection material and cases and have received training from the company’s road safety program in favor of greater safety and in order to facilitate training and knowledge of the city and environment in which it operates. All couriers have an indefinite full-time or part-time contract.
Getir’s model is striking not only because of the concept of physical facilities closed to the public, but also because it is a technology company that has been a pioneer in ultra-fast delivery and has revolutionized last-mile delivery with the delivery of shopping products in about ten minutes.
The online stores in Zaragoza are added to the 16 that the company already has in Madrid, seven in Barcelona and five in Valencia, operating a total of 32 supermarkets. By 2022, Getir plans to continue expanding its activity to be present in the main cities of Spain. In addition, it is not ruled out to expand its presence in those that are already operating, as is the case in the Aragonese capital.
Getir operates in 81 cities in Turkey, apart from being also present in the United Kingdom, Holland, Germany, France, Italy and the United States. And now in Spain. The company was founded in 2015 by Nazim Salur (founder of BiTaksi, Turkey’s leading taxi app), Serkan Borancili (founder of GittiGidiyor, acquired by eBay in 2011) and Tuncay Tutek (former Procter & Gamble and PepsiCo executive in Europe and the Middle East).
