According to the latest , published at the end of March 2022, more than 24 million booster doses have been administered in Spain, 44% belonging to the Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine and 56% to the Spikevax (Moderna) vaccine.
Regarding the Vaxzervia (AstraZeneca) and COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen vaccines, their use is currently marginal, “with practically no new notifications having been received in the Spanish System of Pharmacovigilance of Medicines for Human Use (SEFV) in this period” , explains the report.
When inoculating the doses, the Spanish Pharmacovigilance application Data on Suspicions of Adverse Reactions (FEDRA) received 1,208 notifications of adverse events after the administration of the third dose, of which 37% corresponded to the administration of Comirnaty and 63 % to Spikevax. Of these, the majority occurred in women (69%) and in people between the ages of 18 and 65 (87%).
However, only 423 were considered serious. In this sense, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) specifies that “the identification that the event occurred after the third dose is not always possible in the notifications received.”
Comirnaty (Pfizer) symptoms
To date, 443 notifications have been identified in people who received a third dose of the Comirnaty vaccine. Except for axillary pain, all adverse reactions are known for this vaccine. “The vast majority are transient reactions that can occur in the first days after the administration of the vaccine,” the report describes.

A higher proportion of lymphadenopathy has been observed after administration of the third dose, which “is consistent with what has been observed in clinical trials, in which the incidence of lymphadenopathy was higher in participants who received a booster dose (third dose) than in those who received 2 doses (5.2% vs. 0.4% respectively)”, as indicated in the Comirnaty data sheet.
Symptoms of Spikevax (Modern)
Similarly, 762 reports have been identified in people who received a third dose of Spikevax. The ten most repeated adverse effects are listed in the technical data sheet of the vaccine, as well as in its package insert.

Pyrexia, along with headaches and lymphadenopathy, are the most reported reactions after inoculation of the third dose of the Spikevax vaccine.
