Since masks became mandatory and an essential element in the fight against coronavirus, the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) has been one of the main promoters of this personal protective equipment (PPE) in Spain. Some articles that the institution knew how to develop from its technology, s, and that it has now placed on the market again, with a view to once again being a success in sales, thanks to its incredible features and its use of up to 48 hours.
The CSIC, thanks to the company Bioinicia, has once again put up a consignment of masks for sale after the success of its first goal in the middle of the third wave. With a view to safe protection throughout the spring, the Spanish body this time has oriented itself towards anticovid-19 PPE with nominal FFP2-type protection.
That is to say, some masks that resemble the most popular ones but do not end up being FFP2. This is because “the distinction between an FFP2 and anticovid-19 is that the first has been analyzed with all the tests of the European standard EN149 and the second with the same standard, but abbreviated” in the face of the rush of the European Union for having more PPE as soon as possible.
The materials of its manufacture, with nanofibers, provide a thickness 60 times thinner than normal ones.
Thus, with a duration of up to 48 hours, its main novelty is that they are made with a thickness 60 times thinner than normal ones. This has been achieved thanks to the innovative filter material with nanofibers that the CSIC itself has developed and that allows greater filtering.
“We have seen that during 48 hours of use the filtration properties are not altered”, the director of the project, José María Lagarón, told , who considers that they could be used for longer without losing their properties. “We are not talking about wearing them for 48 hours, but two days taking them off to eat and sleep.”
“These masks are not for prolonged use for 48 hours, but for use for two days, removing them to eat and sleep”
In addition, with a filtration greater than 94% (and less than 99%), the other great novelty of these masks is that they can be sterilized in case of doubts about having been in contact with covid-19. With a 75% ethanol solution and drying the mask for an hour, it cleans all traces of coronavirus, although with precautions.
“It can be done if there are doubts after having been in a closed place with many people or in a hospital the first day,” the researcher cites before clarifying that “there is no rule at the moment that takes it into account because they are novel materials”.
Price
Incredible performance under the latest Spanish technology, which also attracts for its low price. In a batch of 50 units, individuals can buy them for 125 euros. That is, at 2.5 euros each mask, which in the long run means significant savings against covid-19. They can also be purchased in the pack of 25 units that comes out at 48.75 euros, or what is the same at 1.95 euros per unit.
