Although there will be those who do not pass it on purpose, a considerable part of drivers simply forget to renew the mandatory certificate. Among the reasons for forgetfulness, probably many drivers try to rush as much as possible until the exact expiration date, with the aim of not losing days for the next review date, and end up falling into oblivion.

This practice stopped making sense in 2017, when a change in Royal Decree 920/2017, which regulates the technical inspection of vehicles, modified this aspect. , if the inspection is carried out in the 30 days prior to the expiration date, they will not be taken into account to set the next expiration date.

“The period of validity of the periodic technical inspections will be obtained by adding the frequency indicated in this article to the date on which the result of the inspection has been favorable. However, if said date is included in the 30 calendar days preceding the expiration of the validity period of the previous inspection, the validity period will be obtained by adding the frequency corresponding to the aforementioned expiration date”, dictates the rule.

That is, if a vehicle has to pass the ITV at the latest on October 25, and passes it on the 10th of that same month, the next date on which it will have to go at the latest will not be October 10 of the corresponding year. , but the previous deadline will be respected and will be set for October 25. Therefore, there are 30 days in which it is exactly the same to rush more or less until the deadline to obtain the renewed ITV sticker.

Without ITV, fines of 200 to 500 euros

It should be noted that missing the date to go to the ITV is typified as a traffic offense. Depending on the seriousness of the offense and the conditions in which the vehicle circulates, the economic fine ranges between 200 and 500 euros.
