What is Odnoklassniki: the other Russian social network after VK

The world is very big and has many Internet users, and therefore many platforms for them to meet. We are used to the ones we use in our country, which are generally the most popular in the world, but there are others like Odnoklassniki (OK.ru) that also add their users by hundreds of millions.

We are taking our little exotic journey through social networks whose first stop was Asia, where they are among the most used networks . The first of these, with 877 million registered users, is the third most used social network in the world. And back to Europe we went through Russia to visit (VK) that with more than 400 million accounts is positioned as a leader in this country. However, it is not the only (and almost exclusive) Russian social network. Today we discover Odnoklassniki.

Odnoklassniki, the second Russian social network

Odnoklassniki does not appear in the ranking of the largest networks in the world by number of users (), however, due to the large number of inhabitants of Russia, it becomes a key network. That has been fading in the rankings in which in 2014 it was positioned among the top networks with 65 million users of which 40 million were Russians.

Although it is not a very popular network outside of Russia, there are several countries in which its presence is very relevant, as is the case with Armenia, Moldova and Georgia. Since, like VK, its notoriety extends to the former Soviet states.

Ok.ru – one network for another with another profile

It is difficult to find big differences between the two most popular networks in Russia. VK maintains an aesthetic very similar to that of Facebook while Odnoklassniki opts for the same functions of viewing and sharing content with a more fragmented vision, halfway between Twitter and Facebook. One of its peculiarities is that it allows see in each profile what other people have visited itwhich means that it also offers the possibility of activating the invisible mode to navigate through it without being seen.

What is now the second Russian social network began its journey in 2006, the same year as its main competitor was launched in the country, and it was created by Albert Popkov. From that moment, although its services were similar to those of other networks, it captured a different audience demographically.

The network that the translator of Google translates as “classmates”, is quite far from this terminology, capturing an older target. Since the statistics give it an average audience somewhat older than that of other networks, its main age range being the one covered from 35 to 44 years old.
