What is the Social Security number: where can I get it?

Many people are still unaware of the public interest of the Social Security number, despite its importance. Specifically, it is a number that identifies the citizen in their relations with the Administration. This identification code is mandatory for any person who is a beneficiary of a pension, subsidy or benefit.

In addition to that, it is essential to maintain an employment relationship, regardless of the Social Security regime it is. On the other hand, it is also necessary to request inclusion in the health system, unless you do so as a beneficiary of the number of another holder; as can be the case of a child with respect to a father or mother, for example.

How to request the Social Security number?

There are several ways to get the Social Security number. If the citizen is going to work for someone else, that is, they are going to be hired by a company, and they do not have this code, the number request process must be carried out by the company itself.

If this is not the case, the citizen can request the allocation through Import@ss, with the typical identification methods of the platform: via SMS, with Cl@ve or digital certificate. Once the Social Security number has been assigned, the corresponding resolution will be issued, which the person can print.

If you do not have any of these identification methods, the citizen can process it online, through the service form “We help you”. The request is formulated in the form TA.1 Affiliation Application/Social Security Number.

Is the Social Security number the same as the Affiliation Number (NAF) or the health card?

The Social Security number coincides with the Affiliation Number (NAF). So much so, that this code becomes the Affiliation Number at the moment in which the citizen begins, for the first time, a work activity that requires him to be included in the Social Security System, in any of the regimes.

On the other hand, the Social Security number is not the health card. Specifically, the health system uses the Social Security affiliation number to issue the health card and, thus, register the right to receive health benefits.
