A golden horse: this is the stallion that “charges” $ 300,000 to reproduce

His name is Tapit. It is estimated that the value of this horse could be around 120 million dollars. Every Thoroughbred breeder in the US wants this stallion to mate with their females, but his cost is prohibitive for many, his genes are unique, and they come at a price.

And it is that according to Bloomberg, the fees that the owner of Tapit receives every time he mates are about 300,000 dollars, an income that can be multiplied by 135, since the idea is that this stallion can repeat the process this year about 135 times .

The total income of the horse in 2015 is expected to amount to about 35 million euros. Since Tapit fails to fertilize 100% of the females with which he mates, some income is returned if the pregnancy is unsuccessful or the female simply fails to get pregnant. In other words, the $300,000 is technically for mating, which is the fertilization of the female, in this case the mare.

The industry resurfaces

This horse is being the symbol of the recovery of business in the US after the outbreak of the financial crisis. It had been a long time since these amounts of money had been paid to achieve offspring from a stallion. The US thoroughbred industry is having a renaissance. Tapit is ‘charging’ for his services more than double that of the next horse in the ranking of the most demanded to expand his genes.

According to the experts, Tapit’s genetics are very good and their descendants have already shown that they are horses with great qualities for racing. Frosted, one of his many sons, is one of the favorites to win the upcoming Kentucky Derby. Another example is her daughter Untapable, a female who counts nearly all of her starts for wins around the US.
