First interview with the boyfriend of Cayentana de Alba, the ‘biggest’ in Spain. Alfonso Díez, a civil servant, from Palencia, son of a military man, and with few known relationships, speaks for the first time, revealing surprising aspects of his past.
Discreet, educated, handsome, good bearing, and above all silent. Not a word has come out of the mouth of the future husband of the Duchess of Alba until today. Alfonso ‘comes out of the closet’ metaphorically in which he lived since it was discovered in 2008 that he was dating Doña Cayetana Fitz James-Stuart. A statement informing that the Duchess was not planning to get married revealed the relationship.
Long days and long journeys for this official to his place of work, almost always accompanied by the press, where he showed Benedictine patience and said nothing that could betray something other than love and admiration for the Duchess.

Very soon, possibly in September, Alfonso Díez Carabantes will become the third husband of the current Duchess of Alba. Today, in the pages of El Mundo, he recalls some passages of his life, from his childhood watching the bulls from the roof of his family home, or the meeting with a father to whom two months before his death he confessed that he loved him, his pranks of his boy or the day he decided to come to Madrid to study Information and Tourism. A lover of travel, opera, and classical music in general, he eats an omelette skewer every morning, and assures that he likes wine and the Mad Men series. He confesses to be a night owl. Something he does when he’s not with Cayetana. On Saturdays and Sundays he dedicates them to reading the four newspapers he buys in the morning while sipping a coffee in the Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí where he lives.
Use public transportation. His colleagues say that he is a very hard-working and attentive person and, if the afternoon is calm, he has a coffee with them. Sometimes he goes shopping in a small supermarket in Santa Engracia, goes to Vips and El Corte Inglés and loves to buy music CDs.
LOC affirms that Alfonso Díez Carabantes likes to take care of his image. Not in vain, Cayetana has praised her good taste at some point. By the way, the Duchess met the official when she was 48 and he was 24. It was at the Nuevo Futuro flea market.
This week it has been known that Carmen Tello, her inseparable friend, will be the godmother of the religious ceremony of Cayetana, that great one with 45 noble titles, 18 names and more than 30 surnames.
